You've Got to Have Auto Insurance - Now What?
In New Jersey, just like every other state, it's crucial to meet financial responsibility requirements. This can be through insurance, a bond, or any other approved means, ensuring that you're capable of covering costs if you're at fault in an automobile accident. You might feel it doesn't make a difference where you get your coverage.
However, when you're considering insurance, especially in the south of Jersey, it's not just about finding the best price. There's more to insurance than just cost. Choosing a locally owned insurance provider offers benefits that go beyond price alone. Local knowledge, personalized service, and community involvement are just a few advantages you'll enjoy when you opt for local insurance coverage.
There's A Difference!
So, is all insurance truly alike? Does it not matter where you get your coverage? These are questions to think of when shopping around for insurance in New Jersey.
We’ve seen our share of accidents. But out of all the claims we see on a daily basis, few are as frequent, or as potentially life-changing, as accidents involving an automobile.
Because while most insurance products are similar in price and overall function, insurance providers are very different when it comes to structuring a policy that actually covers you.
(For example: making sure you have maximum medical coverage in case you hurt someone else; making sure you’re not overpaying for duplicate medical coverage you already have; or whether you want access to a rental car while your car is in the shop.)
Choosing the right car insurance can seem tricky. You might ask, "Does it matter where I get my insurance? Aren't all policies the same?" These are key questions when you're looking for the best coverage.
Along the Jersey Shore, car accidents are common and can change lives. This fact highlights how important your choice of insurance provider is. While many insurance policies may seem similar, the way they protect you can differ greatly.
Key points to consider include having enough medical coverage if you hurt someone, not overpaying for medical coverage you already have, and deciding if you want a rental car option while yours is being fixed.
So, it's crucial to pick an insurance provider in New Jersey that understands your needs and offers tailored coverage. The provider you choose really does matter.
What Auto Insurance Covers and What's Optional in New Jersey
Insurance protects you and your assets in case of loss, injury or damage; either caused by you, or by someone else. Auto insurance usually consists of the following protections, with some coverage mandated by state law:
In Southern New Jersey, as in the rest of the state, car owners are required by law to have a minimum level of auto insurance coverage. Here are the minimum coverage requirements:
- Bodily Injury Liability: $15,000 per person and $30,000 per accident. This coverage pays for injuries that you, the designated driver or policyholder, cause to someone else.
- Property Damage Liability: $5,000 per accident. This coverage pays for damage you (or someone driving the car with your permission) may cause to someone else's property. Usually, this means damage to someone else’s car, but it also includes damage to lamp posts, telephone poles, fences, buildings, or other structures your car hit.
- Personal Injury Protection (PIP): $15,000 per person or accident. This coverage pays for injuries to you and any passengers in your vehicle in an accident, regardless of who is at fault. It also covers you if you're hit by a vehicle as a pedestrian.
Please note that these are the minimum requirements and may not fully cover you in the event of a serious accident. It's often recommended to consider higher limits and additional coverage types to ensure you're adequately protected.

Additional Protection May Include:
Medical Payments if you have to pay for an injury for yourself or a passenger
Emergency Road service if you are ever stranded in your vehicle
Uninsured Motorist Protection—because even though the law says auto insurance is mandatory, that doesn’t mean that everyone will have it.
Why We're Different
At Heist Insurance, we understand the temptation to opt for the cheapest option available. However, it's crucial to recognize that such a choice may not provide the comprehensive coverage your business genuinely requires.
Although many insurance products might appear similar in terms of cost and basic function, the reality is that insurance providers differ significantly in how they structure policies to truly protect you. At Heist Insurance, we know that a one-size-fits-all policy doesn't exist when it comes to safeguarding your unique situation.
